Many many moons ago we asked THE SHIVVERS to reissue their only single, the best power pop single of all time: Teenline /w When I Was Younger 7″, orginally released in 1980 on Fliptop Records. To our surprise no one had ever reissued this hit record before, although it was a solid 150 USD catch if you were lucky enought to find a copy in the wild… We were shocked when we got the okay to do so, and that was the beginning of the story of Bachelor Records and The Shivvers.
Over the years we did an album with all the songs that also had been recorded way back then, togheter with the great Rerun Records label from St. Louis, MO, USA. This collection of songs has formerly been released by Sing Sing Records, NY, USA.
Last year we did two more singles that were planned to come out in 1980 as well, but the band broke up / stopped playing before this was happening, music industry lost interest in powerpop… The songs on this singles were also on the album, No Substitute / Remember Tonight and Please Stand By / Life Without You – both sold out as well.
We thought whats on the singles and LP (ok and on the Hyped2Death CDs) is all we would ever get from THE SHIVVERS… until now! We could not believe our eyes when Jill Kossoris told us she has two new songs… and here they are! To be honest, they are quite different to the uptempo tunes from the early 80ties that made them a household name BUT they open up a different dimension of this group. There is so much 80ties vibe in these two songs, it’s just unbelievable, it’s like a soundtrack to a John Hughes movie that was never made… two tracks, both of them in fact A-Sides, so we asked Mary Blount to make a fitting artwork that teams up with the style of the band and the songs… and the outcome is just perfect!!!
Side A – My Love Calling
